Samuel Taylor Coleridge (born 21 October 1772, Ottery St Mary, Devon, England – died 25 July 1834, Highgate, Middlesex, England), English poet, literary critic, philosopher, and theologian who was a founder of the Romantic Movement in England and a member of the Lake Poets with his friend William Wordsworth. Hiram Corson, originally a Philadelphian, served for a time as librarian at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and also as a teacher and writer about literature and spiritualism. Educator, poet, critic. Bland was Poet Laureate of California from 1929 until his death (1931). Educated at College of the Pacific, Stanford, and the University of California (1887-1898). California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899).
